As a furnace, every international city opens its door to accept and merge diversified cultures from all over the world. Innovation that is the production of multi-cultures’ mergence will certainly bring city the creative and spiritual life. Therefore, when Creative City is concerned, it is necessary to take discussion with different perspectives and in backgro
und of cultural mergence. This is our original intention that inviting speakers from all over the world.
Starting with the topic of Innovation in city dimension, it helps us to understand design from human scale. City is indeed the public space for all people; correspondingly, innovation of city is about the issue of better serving for people. We don’t believe that innovation is the key ingredient for economic growth and development at the national level – such utilitarian sayings (even it is true); innovation of city can be identified in state of communicative art – it is about the issue of how to create communicative art among people in the city or between people and their city.
With architecture and design, this issue becomes interesting, imaginative and explorative. For this topic, architecture and design is the medium which takes their roles of connecting people and people with their city. City regeneration, the issue hotly discussed nowadays, stimulates the architecture and design as intervention to activate the vigor of city. Therefore, innovation in architecture, design and planning, not so much in terms of how stylistic and formal concern are articulated, but of how these practices are able to engage in the process of generating and regenerating the city’s fabric in its various scopes and scales. The creative industrial parks renovated from old quarter of city have more and more come forth by followings, which is kind of example identifying the weave through old and new fabrics of city. It creates the dialogue between old and new; but importantly, it helps people to better perceive/identify their city, and recall people’s emotion to the city.
